D&D 3.x
The 3.0 and 3.5 editions of Dungeons & Dragons were written by WOTC (whad bought out TSR in the 1990s). The 3.x editions were much more complex and rules complete than previous editions and was the first edition to make major changes to the game. The game generated a huge amount of support material and expansions from WOTC and a number of other companies. Many players who got their start in earlier editions did not care for this edition and did not play it. WOTC replaced this edition with a 4th Edition in June 2008 that is so far away from the original that WOTC says that adapting older material and campaigns will be nearly impossible.
